Old Colony Release Paths

Old Colony Correctional Center holds people serving Massachusetts state sentences. It is not the Plymouth County jail. A person can leave the medium-security institution through a community release, parole, sentence expiration, movement to another DOC institution, or transfer to another legal authority. Only the first set of events places the person outside physical custody, and parole still leaves the sentence under supervision.

MA DOC defines community release separately from court release, transfer, death, and release to another criminal-justice authority. That vocabulary matters when reading an Old Colony record. A release institution field identifies where the state processed an event, but the release category and destination show what occurred. A court sentence, Parole Board action, and approved DOC certificate can each answer a different part of the question.

A live locator result is useful near the event. It is not a permanent historical archive. For an older Old Colony discharge, request the state certificate and date-computation materials rather than treating a missing search result as proof.

Confirm Old Colony Release

The Commonwealth’s official “Find someone housed in a Massachusetts prison” page directs users to VINELink. Search the Massachusetts Department of Correction agency by full first and last name or commitment number. Only MA DOC participates in Massachusetts VINE, according to that state instruction. This makes the route suitable for Old Colony, but not for a person whose event was solely at PCCF.

1. Open the official MA DOC locator instruction and follow its Massachusetts VINELink route.
2. Search by full legal name. Use the commitment number when known to separate common names.
3. Open the matching result and copy each label exactly, including custody status, reporting agency, location, commitment number, and any displayed date.
4. If the record is missing or archived, check the court sentence and any public Parole Board decision that applies.
5. Request the certificate of discharge/release, actual custody-release date, release type, and public date-computation material from MA DOC.

Do not rename a displayed date. “Projected discharge date,” “release date,” “parole eligibility,” and “maximum date” have different meanings. A favorable parole decision can also have conditions or prerequisites and may not match the date someone crossed the gate. Old Colony Discharge Records

The strongest historical proof is an approved certificate of discharge or release. Under 103 CMR 410, the institution begins a formal release-order review, Central Office Date Computation checks the sentence and earned time, and an authorized official approves the certificate. That process is stronger than a screenshot from a locator that may later archive the record.

A scoped MA DOC request can seek the sentence listing, date-computation entries, approved release order, certificate, actual custody-release date, release type, and release institution. Ask the agency to distinguish community release, parole, court release, transfer, a detainer, and continued incarceration. Redactions and exemptions may apply, so the request should seek existing records and reasonably segregable public portions.

The MA DOC public-record request page offers an online form, email, mail, and telephone at the Records Access Officer’s discretion. It expressly says the department does not process county jail requests. That division helps prevent an Old Colony inquiry from being misrouted to PCSD.

Massachusetts public-record law generally calls for a response within ten business days. The MA DOC guidance allows the first four response-work hours without a labor charge, then permits up to $25 per hour under its posted terms. A response may still withhold protected parts and must cite the basis.

Old Colony Release Contact

The official location page is the right source for the institution’s current identity and main contact. Staff can route a present-location or facility process question, while MA DOC’s central records office handles historical state records. Do not assume that the institution’s main line can provide restricted personal details.

The Massachusetts Parole Board is separate from MA DOC. For a parole case, its records page distinguishes public requests, personal records, and requests made with authorization. Plymouth County supervision is routed through Parole Region 7 in Brockton, but private check-in instructions and conditions should not be treated as public release data.

Note: Facility staff, DOC records, and the Parole Board answer different parts of an Old Colony release question.

Old Colony Release Institution

Old Colony is a continuing medium-security state institution in Bridgewater with a focus on mental-health services, rehabilitation, and reentry. Its residents are under MA DOC authority. The Plymouth County Sheriff does not own the state sentence record merely because the prison is geographically in Plymouth County.

The captured page confirms the current institution and contact route. It does not identify a released person or replace the state custody and discharge records.

For aggregate context, MA DOC also publishes a releases dashboard and quarterly reports. Those sources can filter trends by institution and release category, but they do not name individuals. Use them to understand patterns, never to confirm one person’s discharge.

Old Colony Minimum Closure

Old Colony’s facility history has a specific trap. In August 2024, MA DOC announced that it would end housing operations at the separate OCCC-Minimum modular unit and reclassify or transfer its 70 residents to other minimum-security locations. The announcement said only that unit was closing. The medium-security Old Colony Correctional Center remained open.

The move was not a mass community release. A transfer ends a person’s placement in one unit while state custody continues elsewhere. Old references to “OCCC Minimum” should not be used as a current release location, and the 2024 action should not be described as changing the status or operations of the other Plymouth County facilities.

This local event demonstrates why a missing institutional result needs a second check. Search MA DOC for a new location, read the exact status, and obtain the historical movement or release record when the current interface no longer supplies the answer. Facility closure and sentence discharge are separate facts.

Old Colony Parole Release

Parole is release from physical custody under Massachusetts Parole Board supervision. It does not mean the state sentence has ended. The Board’s Field Services Division supervises parolees until the sentence expires, reaches a lawful termination point, or is ended early by the Board. A parole record can therefore support community status while also showing continuing legal control.

For a life-sentence matter, the public Life Sentence Record of Decisions may show the hearing, vote, reasoning, and conditions. A grant can require prerequisites. It can also lead to another sentence, another facility, immigration custody, or community supervision. Compare the decision with the DOC custody record and do not use the decision date as an assumed gate date.

Parole

Conditional release from custody while the sentence remains active.

Discharge

The formal end of the relevant sentence or custodial authority.

Transfer

Movement to another institution or authority without community release.

Projected date

A calculated date that may change before final approval.

A no-result in the parole collections is not proof that no release occurred. Many institutional hearings are closed, and individual parole records have access limits. Use the correct Board request route and the state certificate for the final historical chain.

Keep the evidence in date order. A court sentence sets the legal term, the DOC computation tracks credits and projected discharge, a Parole Board record may authorize supervised release, and the final DOC certificate records the approved custody event. When those sources use different dates, preserve each source label instead of choosing one date as a universal release date.
